- The Low Carbon Sea Transport Transition Project (LCSTTP)
This 5-year Project, funded by the German Government under the IKI Fund, forms an important cornerstone project in implementing the Framework and is the first of a series of projects with multiple partners planned. As a cornerstone project of a broader national and regional work program, the Project is expected to integrate within the MCST program and contribute to the successful implementation of the MCST Framework.
The LCSTT Project originates in the research MOU signed between USP and Hochschule Emden/Leer in 2014 and is the result of RMI and USP’s requests for assistance from Development Partners to assist in implementing the MSCT Framework in 2016. The Project Plan was designed by and as a partnership comprising RMI, USP, Hochschule Emden/Leer and GIZ. The partners have agreed that GIZ will administer and manage the project under a bilateral agreement between Germany and RMI on behalf of the partners.
LCSTTP is targeting the energy efficiency of the ships of the Marshall Islands Shipping Corporation and also small intra-lagoon vessels. The project will also resource the existing work of the High-Level Policy unit in regard the IMO’s shipping emission reduction Roadmap.
